spring retreat! YEEEE

Neither rain or snow (sleet?) stopped us from welcoming and getting to know our new class of Commies during this semester’s retreat last Sunday!

Old and new commies huddled together for warmth at Zilker Park before starting our usual round of Never Have I Ever where we stand in huge circle that one council member stands in the middle of to introduce them self and say something they have never done. Other council members who have done said thing run around the circle chaotically until they find an empty spot. The last Commie standing then stands in the middle of the circle and then repeats until we are all truth-ed out and ready to play another game.

Speed Dating Commie Edition followed and old and new members lined up to learn more about each other’s favorite shows, desired super powers and best kept secrets that brought us together through shared similarities, common experiences and many laughs!

New commies then learned their council ancestry and who their parents for the semester would be with the pairing of Bigs and Littles! Bigs, old commies, received a picture of one half of a celebrity couple while Littles, new commies, received the other half. As Beyonce/Jay-Z and Katie/Tom picture holders scrambled to find each other and joined together, new family ties were formed as the council lineage extended by one more generation.

Committee Reveal ensued and council members received slips of papers with pieces of a picture of their committee chair. When committee members found each other and formed their picture, committees joined with their chair and shared some pizza while introducing the committee
goals and events for the semester.

The new Commies were officially welcomed to the family with our series of group pictures (biggest group picture by far!) including the Tyra-pose version and the spirited version where we proudly show of our CC’s. Commie love is finally bestowed onto our wonderful new class
of council members as we all left retreat to begin a great semester with 25 amazing new Commies that we are sure will do their best to make Communication Council even better that what is already is!
